Fertility drugs containing hCG can give misleading results. Other fertility therapies, painkillers, and hormonal contraceptives are unlikely to affect the result. If you have recently stopped taking hormonal contraception or are using fertility therapies, your periods may be irregular, leading you to test too soon.

If your test result is 'Pregnant', you should see your doctor who can advise you on your next steps.

You may not be pregnant, or the level of hCG may not yet be high enough to be detected. If you tested early, test again when your period is expected. If your period is overdue, test again in 3 days' time. If this test gives you a 'Not Pregnant' result and you still have not had your period, see your doctor.

Before testing, always read the package insert carefully. If you're testing before you expect your period, use the first urine of the day. When ready to test, remove the test stick from the foil wrapper and take off the cap. Use the test right away. Place the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds only, or place the absorbent tip in a sample of urine collected in a clean, dry container for 20 seconds only. Replace the cap and lay the test stick flat. The Smart Countdown will now be shown on the display so you know the test is working. Your result will appear within 3 minutes.

Yes, it's important not to drink too much of any liquid, including water or alcohol, before you take a pregnancy test. It's better to wait until you naturally need to pass urine. This way, you'll avoid diluting your level of pregnancy hormone and getting a false 'Not Pregnant' result.
