Baby monitors are considered a necessity for many new parents. Offering reassurance that your little one is sleeping both safe and sound quells much anxiety as you adjust to parenthood. Choosing the right baby monitor can prove quite confusing as there is a wide variety of options available and deciding which baby monitor best suits your needs requires both thought and knowledge. At Inhealth.ie we select only the most reliable and well respected baby monitors to assist you in ensuring the ultimate safety of your new baby. Choose from the Angelcare range of movement, sound, video and breathing monitors to the Samsung Wireless Baby Monitor with additional camera and the Respisense Ditto Breathing Monitor. So what are the different types of baby monitors available? And what baby’s would most benefit by using one?

Sound Monitor: By using a radio transmitter, a sound monitor when placed near your baby will broadcast the sounds she/he makes. By keeping your corresponding radio transmitter with you, it will alert you to changes and you can respond in a timely manner to your baby cries.

Video Monitor: Gives visual assurance that baby is sleeping in the optimal position and this visual contact will also alert you as to whether your baby has a specific need or is crying or calling out in her/his dreams.

Movement Monitor: Movement only baby monitors, detect the slightest of movements and will sound an alarm if there is no movement for 20 seconds. Many baby monitors now offer a combination of features such as the Angelcare Video, Movement & Sound Monitor.

Breathing Monitor: To monitor your baby’s breathing, monitors such as the Respisense Ditto Breathing Monitor is simply attached to the waistband of your baby’s nappy and unobtrusively monitors your baby’s tummy movements. If there is no movement detected after 15 seconds the Respisense monitor will activate and send a light tickling stimulus to baby’s tummy which is usually sufficient to encourage your babys normal breathing patterns. However after a further 5 seconds if no motion is detected an alarm will sound to alert you.

Why Use a Baby Monitor?

- It is recommended that you use a baby monitor if your baby has sleep apnea or a history of breathing problems.
- Sound monitors offer a great reassurrance if your baby’s nursery or sleep space is located away from your lounge/living space.
- A baby monitor offers invaluable peace of mind to first time parents, anxious parents and parents who wish to intervene in a timely way to their baby’s cries or distress.
