Fetal Doppler
What is a fetal doppler? A fetal doppler is designed to enable you to listen to your baby’s fetal heart rate, in other words to listen to your baby’s heart beat before he or she is born. There are a number of well-known brands making fetal dopplers for use in clinics and by moms at home. Inhealth Ireland stocks two of these fetal doppler brands - Hi-BeBe and AngelSounds
Why Use a Fetal Doppler at home?
Many moms-to-be are very anxious during their pregnancies and need frequent reassurance that all is well with their baby. For some, this anxiety can be caused by complications or difficulties in this pregnancy, or during a previous pregnancy. Using a fetal doppler at home can alleviate this anxiety, resulting in a more relaxed mother which hopefully will lead to a more relaxed baby.
Not all hospitals have the facilities or capacity to offer frequent scans during pregnancy so having your own fetal doppler or pregnancy dopplers means that you can check your baby’s fetal heart rate (FHR) yourself. Sometimes the hospital may be at a distance from where the mother lives, or perhaps the mother cannot drive, is not allowed to drive, or does always have someone to bring her to the hospital or doctor to check the baby’s heart beat. Again having a fetal doppler or baby dopplers at home provides immediate confirmation that the baby is doing fine.
Later in pregnancy, a mother-to-be can feel the movements and kicks of her baby so she knows that all is well. Earlier in the pregnancy, the baby’s movements are not noticeable as the baby is still so small. Again, the use of a fetal doppler or ultrasound doppler can detect small movements so the mother can rest knowing that her baby is OK.
