TENS is a drug free, non-invasive pain relief method that is safe to use for both mother and baby. There are no harmful side effects and as a result babies are born more awake and responsive than those whose mothers have used strong drugs for pain relief. The TENS machine emits low frequency electronic impulses through the skin to block the pain signals carried to the brain, thereby reducing pain experienced. It also encourages the brain to produce the bodies own pain killing hormones, called endorphins. TENS machines for childbirth have two currents, or modes of operation. One current is used when resting between contractions and a stronger current is used during a contraction. As above, all of the tens machines have 4 pads for placing as directed. The Boost button is very important during labour, as the pain varies during and between contractions. The Boost button increases the pain relief to the maximum when pressed. All of the tens machines can be used for other pain relief - shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain, period pain, etc. The advantage of tens machines is that they supply highly effective, non-invasive pain relief and are drug-free.
The OBI tens machine is simple and effective, with a large LCD display. It has a neck cord for ease of carrying and a strong belt clip.
The Elle tens machine is a digital tens machine which is very easy to use during labour and for other areas requiring pain relief. It uses Opti-Max technology for extra power when required. It also has a neck cord, a clip and a soft carrying pouch.
The Meditens XP labour tens machine is specifically designed for use during labour with its boost/trigger/burst button option when a boost of extra pain relief is required. Once the contraction is over, pressing the button again reduces the pain relief to the pre-boost level; this process can be repeated for every contraction.
The Miracle Tens machine is very simple to use with a large LCD display. Like the other tens machines, it has a boost button and can be used for other pain relief. It comes with a pouch for carrying and a neck cord.
