Notes:

• unlike the glucose or cholesterol testing that you may do in your doctor’s surgery, home cholesterol testing does not require you to be fasting
• it is recommended that you read the cholesterol monitor’s instructions fully before trying to take an Easy Touch cholesterol or glucose test; you will need to set up the cholesterol monitor and use the test strip before using it to check your glucose or cholesterol levels
• if you have never used a lancing device / puncturer before, again it is advisable to read the detailed instructions in the manual before taking a glucose test or cholesterol test.

Easy steps to take a glucose test:

• Insert glucose test strip into the cholesterol/glucose monitor or meter
• Apply whole blood to the glucose test strip
• Wait for 10 seconds to read your result.

Easy steps to take a cholesterol test:

• Insert cholesterol test strip into the cholesterol monitor
• Apply whole blood to the cholesterol test strip
• Wait for 150 seconds to read your result.

Hints for ease of taking your blood sample:

• To increase the blood flow to your hands, wash your hands before taking the test in warm water; you need to wash your hands with soap anyway before taking the test to ensure that your blood sample is not contaminated
• Let your arms hang downwards to increase the blood flow
• The best place to take blood is on the side of the fingertip - this has a good blood supply.

How much blood is required for each glucose test or cholesterol test?
Only a single drop of blood is needed; however this drop needs to be enough to cover the whole of the reaction zone on the test strip. The cholesterol/glucose monitor can only give reliable and accurate results when it is supplied with sufficient blood.

How frequently should I take a glucose test or a cholesterol test?
The frequency of taking a glucose or cholesterol test is usually decided between you and your doctor. A log book is supplied with the Easy Touch monitor for convenient tracking of your results.

How do you interpret the results of your Cholesterol test?
Normal (fasting) blood cholesterol is below 200 mg/dL. This is just a general guide and may not apply to you. Ask your doctor for the correct cholesterol range for you.

How do you interpret the results of your Glucose test?
Normal (fasting) blood glucose is 70 - 100 mg/dL. Again this is just a general guide and may not apply to you. Ask your doctor for the correct glucose range for you.
