Inhealth, Ireland stocks a range of both male fertility tests and female fertility tests. The male fertility tests check the sperm for numbers, concentration and motility. The female fertility tests check the level of the woman’s FSH hormone, which is connected with fertility. When you are trying to conceive (ttc), it helps greatly if you know that positive fertility test results have been achieved. All the fertility tests can be carried out safely and discreetly in your own home, saving you the cost and embarrassment of attending your doctor. Inhealth Ireland delivers all fertility tests the next day from its warehouse in Dublin. See further information on fertility tests below the fertility test products listed on this page.
How are Fertility and Infertility defined?
Fertility is simply the natural ability to create new life, i.e. to successfully conceive or become pregnant through normal sexual activity, and subsequently give birth to children.
Infertility may seem to be present if after a year of trying to conceive (ttc), without the use of any form of contraception, a pregnancy has not occurred.
What are Fertility Tests?
Fertility tests are designed to establish if there are possible problems with the fertility levels of men and women.
Many people assume that if there is a problem with fertility it is the woman’s issue. This is not always the case. Some experts believe that up to half of all issues regarding infertility are due to problems with the man. This is why it is a good idea to test the man as well as the woman when there appears to be issues with fertility. While many men may not want to have fertility tests, establishing if there is a problem with male fertility can often result in earlier correction of a problem and hopefully lead on to a successful pregnancy. Female fertility testing can often be uncomfortable, invasive and expensive, so it is wise to do male fertility testing first or at least at the same time as female fertility testing.
How long should you wait before checking your fertility
Different experts will suggest you wait different lengths of time before consulting the medical profession if you feel there is a problem with your fertility. Generally:
- if you are under 35 and have been trying to conceive for over a year without success, it is recommended that you seek help
- if you are over 35 and under 40, it is advised that you do not wait any longer than 6 months before seeking help
- if you are over 40, do not wait any longer than 3 months.
Fertility Checking or Fertility Testing with a Medical Professional
If you decide to go to a doctor regarding your fertility, regardless of whether you are male or female, you may be asked some or all of the following questions:
-Your history in regard to:
- Any medications you are taking or have been taking
- Any surgeries or illnesses you have had
-Information on your general health, lifestyle, diet, whether you smoke, drink, take drugs, etc.
-How long you have been trying to conceive (ttc)
-How is intercourse being timed on order to maximise the chances of conceiving, i.e. are the couple aware of the woman’s ovulation time during her cycle
-You may also be asked about your sexual history.
In order to assist with the questions above, it would be good to have the results of some at home fertility tests to add to the overall information available about your fertility.
At Home Fertility Testing
In order to inform yourself or reassure yourself before trying to conceive (ttc) or attending a medical person with a fertility problem or concern, it is a good idea to use home fertility tests. Inhealth, Ireland, stocks a range of both male fertility tests and female fertility tests. These include:
- Male Fertility Test - Test Point Home Male Fertility Test
This Male Fertility Test gives you a result based on the sperm concentration and motility. The Test Point Male Fertility Test is quick, easy and gives you an accurate result.
- Male and Female Fertility Test - FertilCheck Plus
The BabyStart FertilCheck Plus combined male and female fertility tests checks for sperm numbers / sperm concentration, and measures the female hormone FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). An increase in FSH can be an indication of reduced fertility. If the results of both these male and female fertility tests are positive, i.e. the sperm count is low and there is an increased level of FSH, medical advice or help should be sought if the couple are trying to conceive (ttc).
- Female Fertility Test - FertilCheck Female Fertility Test
These female fertility tests are the same tests that are in the combined box above. They measure the level of the female hormone FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). As before, an increased level of FSH is an indication that there may be an issue with female fertility.
All these at home fertility tests are delivered the next day from Inhealth’s warehouse in Dublin.
